[theqoo] 'GAYO DAEJEON' LIVE BROADCAST TURNS INTO A FARCE... SM'S 3 MCS STUMBLE AROUND, EVENTUALLY FORCING STAFF TO STEP IN

A bizarre incident occurred during the live broadcast of “2026 SBS Gayo Daejeon SUMMER,” when the show suddenly came to a halt in the middle of the hosting. Eventually, production staff even came onto the stage to check the cue sheet, with the entire scene being broadcast live, drawing criticism from viewers.

The September 9 broadcast of 2026 SBS Gayo Daejeon SUMMER featured 28 acts, including Stray Kids, ATEEZ, Red Velvet, RIIZE, and NCT WISH, with a variety of performances designed to beat the summer heat. The event was hosted by SM Entertainment artists RIIZE’s Sungchan, Hearts2Hearts’ Ian, and NCT WISH’s Sion.

The problem occurred while they were introducing the next performer. During a stage transition, Sion suddenly stopped speaking. Sungchan appeared confused and looked around, while Ian, seemingly unaware of the mistake, shifted from side to side as he waited for the next cue.
A short while later, someone at the venue was heard saying, “Should we try that again?” Eventually, production staff hurried onto the stage and checked Sion’s cue sheet, with the entire scene being captured on the live broadcast.

The three hosts eventually regained their rhythm and continued the show, which proceeded without any major problems afterward. However, viewers expressed disappointment after seeing the hosts unable to follow the script during a live broadcast, resulting in the show coming to a halt and production staff having to intervene onstage.

Following the broadcast, comments criticizing the hosts’ lack of preparation poured in online, including: “Do they not rehearse?” “If they were given the script, shouldn't they have read it beforehand and practiced together?” “The three of them have no chemistry; it looks like they didn't rehearse,” “They're making mistakes even while looking at the script and then getting embarrassed about it,” and “They made a mistake and they're laughing?”

Some viewers also expressed dissatisfaction with the choice of hosts itself. Comments such as “Is this blatantly favoring SM?” “Why didn't they put even one experienced MC in there?” and “It's a live broadcast, so did they deliberately choose mostly inexperienced members?” emerged, with criticism expanding beyond the hosts to the casting and production process.

On the other hand, some viewers argued that it was excessive to place too much blame on the hosts, given that unexpected incidents can happen at any time during a live broadcast.

1. Why can't SM just let this go?ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Seriously, they've been trying to shove their idols in like this over and over again for decades

2. If you're trying to shove down your kids, at least pick some kids who are good, tsk tsk

3. It's a shame about the mistake, but I don't think it's worth going out of your way to leave hate comments. To those of you who keep leaving hate comments even after getting so worked up that you've scrolled past the page, try reading your own comments out loud. It's really funny... You guys are like the ones supporting villains in a drama

4. It was a precious opportunity for someone, so it was a shame. I mean, why else would they have gone up? ã… ã…

5. The deep-rooted, long-standing corruption of the 'combo-deal' from the SM-spoonsã…‹ã…‹

6. Seems like SM is desperate lately. They are trying to push those three so much but when it's not fated to work it just won't work, f*ckã… ã…  I'd rather seen RV's Joy or Irene if they must put someone

7. Wasn't Sungchan the MC on Inkigayo?

8. Ian did well. I hope that you guys won't go after her

9. Sion was freaking bad at talking

10. I've stopped watching 'I Live Alone' for a long time since SM started to shove their idols in

11. I heard they changed the MCs for the Gayo Daejeon Summer show because the usual ones were abroad or on military leave, though nothing like this had ever happened before

12. SM, push kids who are worth pushing

13. Must be f*cking easy to make money for them..

14. Even if you're giving someone a spot through connections, don't put in a slacker, put in someone who's actually good at it and capable of doing the job

15. Sion really doesn't seem the kind of kid to be pushed as an MC... first of all, he needs to improve his pronunciation
