Actor Kim Soohyun has won a final victory in a lawsuit over the return of a contract payment filed by Swiss watch brand Mido.

The 13th Civil Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Choi Soo-jin, completely dismissed Mido’s claim in a lawsuit filed against Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, and others, seeking the return of the contract payment. The ruling was issued on the 27th of last month.

Mido did not appeal the decision, so the first-trial ruling in favor of the defendants became final, confirming Kim Soohyun’s final victory in the case.

Mido first signed Kim Soohyun as an advertising model in December 2020 and renewed the contract annually. However, after controversy arose last year surrounding Kim Soohyun’s alleged private relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron, Mido unilaterally terminated the contract in May and filed a lawsuit seeking the return of approximately 577 million won in contract payments.

Mido reportedly argued that because the actor’s commercial value had been damaged, regardless of whether Kim Soohyun was at fault, this constituted grounds for terminating the contract and required him to return the contract payments for the remaining period. Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, argued that the controversy had arisen from allegations made by a third party and that Kim Soo-hyun was not responsible for it.

The court sided with Kim Soohyun, ruling that the circumstances did not constitute valid grounds for terminating the contract.
