[theqoo] BLACKPINK LISA, WINS 'BEST POP' AT THE MTV VMA... FIRST FOR AN ASIAN SOLOIST

Lisa, a member of the group BLACKPINK, became the first Asian solo artist to win the "Best Pop" award at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

At the ceremony held on the 27th (local time) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Lisa won the major "Best Pop" category with her song "Dream," beating out pop stars such as Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.

"Dream" features Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi.

While the group BTS won this category in 2020, Lisa is the first K-pop solo artist to achieve this feat.

She is also the first Asian solo artist to win the award.

Upon hearing her name called, Lisa took the stage looking surprised and expressed her gratitude to those who helped create the song, including Kentaro Sakaguchi.

Lisa received the highest number of nominations among K-pop artists at this year's VMAs.

She was nominated in four categories: Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing.
