Actor Choi Hyun-wook has once again sparked controversy after hosting a live stream while heavily intoxicated. Criticism has mounted, particularly given his history of being at the center of controversies regarding his past behavior.

Choi Hyun-wook hosted an Instagram live stream on the morning of the 30th, appearing visibly drunk. When comments from international fans began to pour in, he remarked, "There seem to be a lot of foreigners here, you need to treat South Koreans well." Although some fans expressed concern about him broadcasting while intoxicated, Choi continued the stream, stating, "Koreans are likely asleep at this hour, so there’s no one to stop me."

Controversy arose once it became known that the broadcast had taken place while he was heavily intoxicated. Netizens criticized his behavior and remarks as inappropriate. The backlash was particularly intense given his history of previous controversies involving his conduct.

Previously, in October 2023, Choi faced criticism after being spotted smoking and discarding a cigarette butt on the street in Seoul's Apgujeong Rodeo area. He subsequently paid the imposed fine and posted a handwritten apology.

There were also incidents where parts of the body were unintentionally exposed in photos posted on social media. Last year, controversy arose after a high-speed pitch was thrown toward a child ceremonial batter.

This drunken live broadcast is drawing particular attention as it occurred ahead of the domestic comeback of Kim Soohyun, a senior artist at the same agency. Last year, Kim Soohyun faced allegations of having previously dated the late Kim Saeron when she was a minor. Kim Se-ui, the head of the YouTube channel "Garo Sero Institute", which raised the allegations, was indicted while under arrest on charges including defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization, while Kim Soohyun was cleared of charges regarding the Child Welfare Act.

Kim Soohyun is set to resume his domestic activities by attending the "2026 The Fact Music Awards" as a presenter on the 19th of next month. In October, he also plans to meet fans by holding a fan meeting in Manila, Philippines, in his capacity as a model for the Indonesian fashion brand "Bench."
