[theqoo] THE REASON WHY SOUTH EAST ASIA IS DECLINING IN POPULARITY AS A TOURIST DESTINATION

"Southeast Asia travel drops sharply... Reasons why its Popularity has cooled"

Pho = 200 baht = 8,000 won > Ramen = 607 yen = 5,000 won

""Prices will be well over double compared to the past. I think they might have gone up by about threefold, which is probably why (Korean tourist numbers) have decreased a bit."

"Trends in passenger growth and decline by route"

"When considering things like fuel surcharges and local prices have 'gradually increased,' one doesn't feel the overall advantage."

original post: here

1. Chinese goods are so cheap, there's no need for me to go to South East Asia anymore

2. That's why I've been going to China instead

3. It comes down to the cost of the plane ticket. Once you’ve bought a ticket, regardless of whether it’s expensive or not, you’re already more than 50% committed to going. But since the tickets are pricey, I feel like you’d be much better off spending that same money and time traveling to a place like Japan, or perhaps somewhere like Qingdao, which is relatively clean.

4. I stick to going to Vietnam only, but I don't go to any other SEA countries anymore

5. It's also way farther than I expected, so the travel costs a lot..

6. Still, Vietnam is still on the cheaper side

7. Thailand flights are way too expensive now, and it's also an ambiguous commute time (5 hours)

8. It's too hot too... Whenever I grab the taxi there, I get stressed

9. I go to China because it is visa-free, close, and cheap

10. It's also a hassle with the visa
