[theqoo] CURRENT INFLUENCE OF KOREAN PRODUCED ANIMATION IN THE US

Solo Leveling is a Korean produced anime

There’s an OTT company in the US called Crunchyroll that publishes anime.
Each year, Crunchyroll holds an awards ceremony that also serves as a popularity vote for Japanese anime.

That’s the 'Crunchyroll Anime Awards'.
Among the awards they give, there are some unique categories, one of them is‘Must Protect At All Costs’ Character.

This character won it this year as well, following the year before last and last year.
But it’s not just quirky awards like that, there are also standard categories like Best Director, Best Voice Actor, and Best Main Character.
Still, people who don't know about it might just say, “What even is that, you weeb?”

Last year, director Bong Joon-ho even appeared as a presenter for the Best Director award.
Since Director Bong wouldn't just show up for anything, it's safe to say the event isn't completely unknown.
Anyway, the awards ceremony was held again this year and that was just yesterday…
So did Solo Leveling actually win anything there or what?
Yeah, it did

Won the ‘Anime of the Year’ (daesang)
In addition, it also received awards for:

- Best New Series

- Best Ending

- Best OST

- Best Main Character

- Best Action

- Voice Actor: English Category

Something... something is definitely happening

+The original work is a Korean webtoon, but the anime was produced in Japan.
However, it stays faithful to the original, all the characters have Korean names and the setting is Korea.
The way Japan is portrayed as a troublemaker in the story is kept intact.
Even though it was made in Japan, the story and settings weren’t altered to favor Japan.

original post: here

1. The webtoon was seriously freaking cool... The anime was so so

2. Please hit big even more

3. That's true, the last part of the anime didn't alter the story

4. It's so fun

5. This was a good collab

6. The original work alone is another level

7. Solo Leveling is no joke overseas

8. They picked season2 so well

9. The webtoon already hit daebak globally
