[theqoo] "KPOP DEMON HUNTERS" LIVE-ACTION, MADE BY HYBE... PLANNING A K-POP MOVIE IN COLLABORATION WITH PARAMOUNT

HYBE announced on the 23rd that it is collaborating with Paramount Pictures to produce a film centered around K-pop.

The company revealed that the lead roles will be played by Ji-young Yoo, who voiced the youngest demon hunter "Joy" in the Netflix animation KPop: Demon Hunters, and Eric Nam, who gave a compelling performance as surgical resident “Yona Yoon” in last year’s Hollywood film Transplant.

The movie, whose title has yet to be decided, will tell the story of a Korean-American girl who defies her family’s objections to audition for a reality TV show in hopes of becoming part of the next-generation K-pop girl group. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on February 12, 2027, with filming set to begin in mid-September of this year, entirely on location in South Korea. This marks the first time a major Hollywood studio will shoot an entire film in Korea.

Director Benson Lee stated, “This film is my love letter to K-pop, which is full of energy, passion, magic, and an incredible community of supporters. I am deeply grateful to Paramount Pictures for supporting the project, to the dedicated production team, and to everyone who helped bring this story to life.”

James Shin, President of Film and TV at HYBE America, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Paramount Pictures to share a story about K-pop with global audiences. This film will capture the dedication, artistry, and enduring popularity of K-pop, while also conveying a universal theme of chasing one’s dreams in the face of adversity.”
