[theqoo] THE REASON WHY 4MINUTE'S HEO GAYOON HAS BEEN LIVING IN BALI FOR 2 YEARS

4Minute's Heo Gayoon, who made headlines for having lived in Bali, Indonesia for the past two years.
Many people assumed she moved there because she comes from a wealthy family or had already earned enough money for a lifetime
but in reality, there was another reason.

After working non-stop for seven years as a member of 4Minute without proper rest, Heo Gayoon transitioned into acting, where work and personal time were clearly separated, but this led to increased stress.
She described the seven years following 4Minute’s disbandment as being like a "walking general hospital." In the beginning, she suffered from insomnia so severe that she read countless books and watched almost every OTT show available, yet still couldn’t fall asleep.
Later, she developed binge eating disorder, feeling constantly hungry no matter what she ate. This was followed by intense regret, leading her to exercise obsessively. She ended up caught in a cycle of binge eating, extreme dieting, and over-exercising.

Later, she was diagnosed with autoimmune disease rheumatoid vasculitis, as well as hypothyroidism.
In December 2020, she also lost her older brother, which left her feeling a deep sense of emptiness about life. She recalled that her brother had spent most of his 20s and 30s just going between home and work, and she believes he must have had many regrets.
In 2023, while struggling with lethargy, former 4Minute member Jeon Jiyoon suggested a trip to Bali. During the 6-day trip, Gayoon noticed her insomnia and binge eating had improved.
Wanting to experience that comfort and freedom again, she returned just a month later, this time for a two-month stay in Bali.

After that stay, she came to believe that her happiness lies in Bali.
No matter how successful she became, if life ended with only regrets, it wouldn’t be worth it.
She decided she wanted to live with a sense of fulfillment, and that’s what led her to move to Bali.

Since then, all of her symptoms have disappeared, except for the hypothyroidism, and she has now been living in Bali for over two years.

I’m writing this as a former 4Minute fan, because I feel disappointed seeing people make assumptions based on fragments of her story.
