“Who would have thought a concert would suddenly be scheduled?” said A, a groom-to-be in his 40s who is set to marry on the 21st of next month, his face filled with worry. The news of the comeback performance by the group BTS, to be held that day at Gwanghwamun Square, is a celebration for fans around the world, but for him, it feels like a bolt from the blue.
In a phone interview with Yonhap News on the 18th, A sighed, saying, “Two buses carrying guests are coming up from the provinces, and most of them are elderly. Traffic will be hell. I already feel sorry thinking they’ll be stuck in massive crowds.”
The BTS concert, which police estimate will draw 200,000 people, has become a “sudden disaster” for engaged couples. On what should be one of the most important days of their lives, they now face extreme traffic congestion, noise, and concerns about safety accidents.

Parents preparing for their child’s first-birthday celebration have also been hit unexpectedly. Lee (32), who reserved a venue near Gwanghwamun for her baby’s first-birthday party next month, said, “I’ve already paid 500,000 won for the traditional first-birthday table setup and snapshot photography. They suddenly made this announcement, now I don’t know what to do. I’m angry.”
A Seoul city official explained, “Because the event timeline had not been finalized, discussions on traffic control plans were delayed. Once the safety management plan review is completed after the Lunar New Year holiday, we will provide guidance on detour routes and take proactive measures for wedding halls and churches that may be affected.”
HYBE, BTS’s agency, stated in principle that it “plans to mobilize all company resources to ensure the event proceeds safely.”
J-Hope, a member of the idol group BTS, has donated 200 million won to Asan Medical Center in Seoul.
According to Seoul Asan Medical Center on the 18th, J-Hope made the 200 million won (130K USD) donation to support the development of its children’s hospital in celebration of his birthday that day.
J-Hope said, “I sincerely hope that children can overcome their pain and dream bright dreams,” adding, “I continue to donate as a way of giving back to ‘ARMY' who always send me great support. I’m grateful to be able to practice meaningful sharing again on my birthday this year, following last year.”
Starting with a 100 million won donation to Seoul Asan Medical Center in 2022, J-Hope continued his philanthropy by donating 200 million won to the children’s hospital last year. With this year’s contribution, his total donations to the hospital have reached 500 million won.
Seoul Asan Medical Center stated, “We plan to use J-Hope’s donation to improve medical facilities and the healthcare environment for pediatric and adolescent patients, provide home-based medical care for critically ill children, and operate psychological healing programs.”
