It has been revealed that MC Dingdong (Heo Yong-woon), who had been keeping a low profile due to a DUI controversy, as****ted a female BJ during a live broadcast.
The incident occurred while MC Dingdong was hosting a recent “Excel broadcast” (a type of livestream where viewer donations are ranked). During the show, he as****ted a female BJ.
According to the video, the female BJ directed harsh insults at MC Dingdong, saying things like, “You’ve had a long career but accomplished nothing, you XX,” and “You’re the one with that incident from two years ago (the DUI case), you XX.” Enraged by the remarks, MC Dingdong shouted “Turn off the camera!” and grabbed the woman by the hair.
After the disturbance, MC Dingdong sat back down and blamed his behavior on trauma related to his past crime. While saying, “I apologize to the viewers and the BJs,” he also added, “I can accept all kinds of insults, but the moment I heard ‘the incident from two years ago,’ I have my own trauma about it and it made me think of my children, so I snapped,” shedding tears as he spoke.
After apologizing, when a viewer sent a donation, MC Dingdong even began dancing. Just moments after crying and apologizing, he immediately stood up and, together with other participants, loudly chanted the donor’s ID.
This moment is interpreted as clearly showing the moral hazard of so-called “Excel broadcasts,” which generate revenue by encouraging competition for donations (known as “Star Balloons”). On platforms that fall into regulatory blind spots of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, extreme insults and even violence between participants are being consumed as provocative content to encourage donations.
Online public opinion has also been harsh. Comments include: “He committed the crime himself, what ‘trauma’ is he talking about?” and “As****ting someone and then dancing as soon as money comes in, that’s basically an online nightclub.”
MC Dingdong previously received a 1 year and 6 month prison sentence with a 2-year suspended sentence after being charged in February 2022 for driving under the influence while heavily intoxicated, refusing police orders to stop the vehicle, fleeing, and colliding with a police officer.
