[theqoo] [EXCLUSIVE] "EVEN PAYING FOR OWN PRACTICE ROOM"... THE BOYZ TO LEAVE CHA GA-WON, 9 MEMBERS CUTTING TIES WHILE NEW STAYS

Boy group THE BOYZ is finally set to part ways with Cha Ga-won. Nine members, excluding New, are terminating their exclusive contracts with One Hundred.

According to reporting on the 19th, THE BOYZ (Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Sunwoo, Eric) sent a certified notice in February to Cha Ga-won, citing serious contract violations and an irreparable breakdown of trust as reasons for termination. Despite over a month of attempts to reach an agreement, negotiations have recently collapsed.

Since February, the group had requested access to their contracts and settlement statements, but Cha reportedly failed to provide them for over a month and did not give a satisfactory explanation. Instead, he allegedly claimed the members were at fault and suggested they would need to pay penalties if they wanted to terminate the contracts.

Even while enduring these difficulties, THE BOYZ continued fulfilling their schedules for over a month to keep their promises to fans, but ultimately decided to end their contracts. However, among the 10 members, New has chosen to remain with the company. The reasons are understood but not disclosed due to being personal.

Although Cha is opposing the contract terminations, the reasons cited are considered clear. As previously reported, One Hundred is in a state of complete capital impairment, and tens of billions of won in unpaid settlements to THE BOYZ have accumulated since the third quarter of last year. There are also tens of billions of won in unpaid fees to partner companies and staff, making it difficult to support future album production or activities.

Notably, Cha is also said to have used approximately 150 million KRW from the members’ housing deposit. In addition, despite having a concert scheduled at KSPO Dome in Seoul from April 24 to 26, the group reportedly has no proper practice space provided and is paying out of pocket to rent one. They may also have to cover staff costs themselves.

Beyond One Hundred, other labels under Cha, Big Planet Made Entertainment and INB100, are also reportedly in full capital impairment, with hundreds of billions of won in unpaid settlements. Even basic support like transportation has been cut off, with some artists using personal vehicles for schedules.

Before THE BOYZ, Taemin terminated his contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment and moved to Galaxy Corporation, home to G-Dragon. At the time, Taemin was also able to end his contract without dispute due to serious fault on the company’s side, and it was reported that he had personally paid staff expenses as well.

Following Taemin, THE BOYZ have now turned away from Cha, and with his agencies effectively losing functionality, further departures of artists are expected.

The outlet requested confirmation from One Hundred, but received no response.
