[theqoo] IDOL GROUP HEARTS2HEARTS CAUGHT IN THE 'GANGGANGSULLAE' HUMAN-CHAIN... EXCESSIVE SECURITY CONTROVERSY AT INCHEON AIRPORT

(T/n: ‘Ganggangsullae’ = a representative folk game and a form of primitive performing arts from the coastal regions of South Jeolla Province where women hold hands, form a circle, and enjoy singing and dancing.)

Idol group Hearts2Hearts has become embroiled in a controversy over excessive security, dubbed “Ganggangsullae-style,” at Incheon International Airport.

According to online communities on the 18th, the group received this so-called “Ganggangsullae” security while departing from the airport that morning. As they moved from the entrance to the inside of the airport, around ten bodyguards held hands to form a human chain, surrounding the members as they walked.

During this process, some civilians reportedly experienced inconvenience, as they were unable to enter parts of the airport.

This type of circular “human-chain” security is not new. In 2017, B1A4 used a similar formation upon arrival at an airport in Thailand, and in April of last year, NCT Dream formed a circular defensive line at Incheon Airport to control large crowds during departure.

In December 2023, BOYNEXTDOOR also moved in a similar formation at Everland, blocking the path of regular visitors and receiving criticism such as “Are they gangsters?”

Some have defended Hearts2Hearts, saying the heightened security may be due to a past incident involving a sasaeng fan. On June 8 last year, a sasaeng fan pushed a member while the group was at the Incheon Airport passenger terminal.

Netizens reacted with comments like: “Why are they blocking paths used by the public?”, “This is causing inconvenience to regular passengers,” and “Not even the president gets treated like this.”

1. The 'Ganggangsullae' has been around for ages, you guys

2. Is this negative virality? Everyone is doing this?

3. But if you wear a hat and a mask at the airport, wouldn't you not have to do that? People don't really pay attention to others, so they'll just walk right past you...

4. This is controversial??

5. There are airport-related controversies every time... If you're going to burden civilians by doing this, it's so-so...

6. I'd rather them doing this

7. If you look into it, other groups have done this a lot too, and overseas security teams do the same when protecting artists... Also, right before the H2H concert, there was an incident in China where security pushed a H2H member, so that's why they're doing this

8. Can you do something about the Gwanghwamun instead?

9. People are making fun of Cortis' umbrella security, mocking them and bashing them, but some of the reactions are actually pretty funnyã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹
> I looked it up because I didn't know what you were talking about but it's indeed funny. But I do find it freaking unusual. It's my first time seeing a team not allowing fans to see them leaving work

10. Actually, ever since the excessive security measures at Gwanghwamun, this doesn't even seem excessive to me. At least it's security guards doing this, not the police
