[theqoo] [EXCLUSIVE] POLICE, BRAZILIAN WOMAN IN HER 30S HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND INDICTED FOR STALKING BTS JUNGKOOK HUNDREDS OF TTIMES

Prosecutors have confirmed that a Brazilian woman in her 30s has been indicted and detained on charges of stalking and trespassing after repeatedly visiting the residence of Jungkook (Jeon Jung-kook), a member of BTS, ringing his doorbell hundreds of times and even entering the property.

According to coverage compiled by Herald Economy on the 3rd, the Women and Children Crimes Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office (headed by Wang Seon-ju) indicted the woman, identified only as A, on February 27 on charges of violating the Anti-Stalking Act and trespassing. Although she was also accused of attempted trespassing, prosecutors dismissed that charge due to insufficient evidence.

A is accused of stalking Jeon by visiting his residence a total of 23 times between December 7 of last year and January 4 of this year, ringing the doorbell hundreds of times, waiting for him near the residence, and leaving letters and other mail. In late December, police issued an “emergency protective measure” against her in relation to the stalking. Despite this, she allegedly visited the residence again in early January, thereby failing to comply with the emergency order (a violation of the Anti-Stalking Act).

Under current law, responses to stalking crimes proceed in the following order: emergency measures, urgent emergency measures, and provisional measures. Emergency measures involve police officers responding immediately to reported ongoing stalking and intervening at the scene. Urgent emergency measures allow judicial police officers, upon report and when there is concern about repeated stalking and urgent necessity, to impose restrictions such as prohibiting the suspect from approaching within 100 meters or contacting the victim. Provisional measures allow a court, upon a prosecutor’s request or ex officio, to impose restrictions such as a restraining order if there is a risk of recurrence.

A is also accused of trespassing on December 13 of last year by entering a side gate of Jeon’s residence after a food delivery worker had briefly opened it to leave food.

On December 13, Yongsan Police Station arrested A in the act on suspicion of trespassing. At the time, she reportedly stated that she “only wanted to make her presence known and had no aggressive intent,” and was released the following day after questioning.

However, prosecutors determined that her actions continued afterward. On December 28, a staff member spotted A in front of Jeon’s residence and reported her to police, leading Yongsan Police to issue an urgent emergency measure. The following day, the Seoul Western District Court approved the measure retroactively. Nevertheless, A visited Jungkook’s residence again in January.

After her whereabouts became unknown, police applied for an arrest warrant on January 28. Prosecutors requested the warrant, which was issued, and A was arrested on February 10. A detention warrant was subsequently issued, and she was taken into custody for investigation on February 13.

Prosecutors received the case from police on February 19 and conducted further investigation on February 24, including questioning A and interviewing the officer in charge. During questioning, A reportedly acknowledged most of the facts but denied criminal intent, stating that her actions were motivated by love for Jungkook and that she had no intention to cause harm.

Nevertheless, prosecutors concluded that her actions constituted stalking and trespassing, and formally indicted her while in detention on charges of violating the Anti-Stalking Act and trespassing.

Police had also referred her on charges of attempted trespassing, stating that CCTV footage showed her pressing the door lock keypad and pushing and pulling the side gate on seven occasions between December 7 and 27. However, prosecutors dismissed the attempted trespassing charge, determining after reviewing the CCTV footage that the relevant conduct could not be confirmed.
