Actor Kim Soohyun’s side has launched a decisive counterattack against YouTuber Kim Se-ui.
Kim Soohyun’s legal representative, attorney Ko Sang-rok, appeared on MBC’s News Today on the morning of the 28th and announced strong legal action against Kim Se-ui, who was recently arrested. Kim Se-ui is the person who raised allegations that the late actress Kim Saeron had dated the adult Kim Soohyun while she was still a minor, and he is also the operator of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute. Kim Soohyun has endured a difficult period since February of last year while fighting these claims, but it was eventually revealed that Kim Se-ui had fabricated the deceased actress’s voice recordings and KakaoTalk messages, finally clearing Kim Soohyun of the accusations.
However, Kim Soohyun reportedly suffered enormous damages, including disruptions to the release schedule of the 60-billion-won Disney+ global original series Knock Off. Following the controversy, advertisers reportedly cut ties with him, and his entertainment career activities were effectively halted, marking the biggest crisis since his debut.
Attorney Ko stated:
“After the incident last year, we estimated the damages and filed a compensation lawsuit worth around 12 billion won (7M USD). At this point, the actual damages are far greater economically. Based on the materials we submitted to investigators, we believe the losses amount to around 30 billion won (19M USD).”
Regarding Kim Se-ui’s alleged crimes, Ko explained:
“The charges include defamation through false information, threats, unauthorized distribution of recordings, and violations of the anti-stalking law. The most important issue here is defamation. The core allegation was that ‘Kim Soohyun had a long-term relationship with Kim Saeron while she was a minor and pressured her through his agency to repay debts, ultimately driving her to d**th.’ These false claims were spread publicly. In addition, he is accused of fabricating evidence such as KakaoTalk conversations and the deceased’s voice recordings to support those claims.”
When asked about the “essence” of the case, Ko emphasized:
“This is an unprecedented case where unverified suspicions were spread, narratives were distorted to manipulate public perception, and even key evidence like KakaoTalk messages and voice recordings was fabricated.”
He further added:
“It’s estimated that around 3 billion people around the world know Kim Soohyun’s name and face. Because he has such a friendly image, many people just think of him as ‘a domestic celebrity,’ but in reality he is globally recognized. This was essentially a case of bringing disgrace upon the nation. Ultimately, this is a collective and premeditated social crime that attempted to completely destroy the honor and life of an innocent actor loved worldwide by manipulating public perception with fabricated evidence.”
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency Gold Medalist released an official statement on the 27th:
“The investigation confirmed that the various allegations and evidence presented by Gaseyeon against Kim Soo-hyun were false. In particular, the KakaoTalk conversations revealed during the press conference were found to have been altered and fabricated from conversations unrelated to Kim Soohyun. The deceased’s voice recordings were also confirmed to be manipulated materials generated using AI technology. Accordingly, due to violations including defamation through false information under the Information and Communications Network Act, violations of the Anti-Stalking Act, violations of the S****l Violence Punishment Act, threats, and the seriousness of the matter, the court issued an arrest warrant for Kim Se-ui. We deeply appreciate the investigative authorities for uncovering the truth based on objective evidence.”
The agency also stated:
“At a press conference one year ago, Kim Soohyun said, ‘I won’t ask you to simply trust me. I will prove it.’ The past year has been devoted entirely to keeping that promise. Finally, through legal procedures and a thorough investigation, the truth has been proven.”
