[theqoo] WHEEIN SOBS "I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO MAMAMOO'S HEYDAYS"... MET WITH COLD RESPONSE "BUT YOU CHOSE TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT?"

Wheein of the group MAMAMOO has opened up about the group’s heyday.

A clip from a recent live stream on a fan community platform has sparked discussion online. Last month, Wheein hosted a live broadcast, where she appeared in casual attire, enjoyed a meal, and chatted with her fans. During the stream, she shared some of her inner thoughts, mentioning that she is someone who tends to cry easily.

She remarked, "I often get very emotional during tours. It leads to a lot of reflection, thinking about things that never even crossed my mind when I was in my early to mid-twenties, back when MAMAMOO was at the height of its popularity. I find myself wishing I could go back to that time. To be honest, there were moments back then when I truly hated it. Ot was just so exhausting. You need breaks in life to appreciate the precious things that emerge in those quiet spaces; when you’re constantly being pushed forward at a breakneck pace, you often miss out on the valuable things you might have otherwise gained."

She continued, "I didn't have any breathing room back then. Looking back, it was tough, but also fun. I think I miss those days, when we were in the thick of our activities. If I were asked to go back now, I’m not even sure I could do it all over again. Sometimes, when I’m drinking alone, I’ll put on old videos of MAMAMOO, I guess that’s my version of a 'drunk habit.' I end up watching them and crying all by myself." As she said this, she shed some tears.

Wheein shared, "Back then, I told Kim Shinyoung that I wanted to quit. She replied, 'Even if you want to quit now, a day will surely come when you’ll miss this time.' Honestly, I didn't understand what she meant at the time. She insisted that I would definitely miss it, and now, I truly realize how right she was." She appeared visibly distressed as she spoke.

Netizens who watched the video reacted with comments such as: "But she’s the one who chose not to renew her contract," "This doesn't really resonate," "Is she drunk?", "Her emotions are like a rollercoaster," "Then why didn't she renew her contract?", "Is MAMAMOO disbanding?", "She’s even shedding tears?", and "Isn't MAMAMOO still in its prime?"

When you look back at other girl groups, that kid who thinks she can do better without the team and leaves, while throwing everything into shambles, is always the first one to flop

Speaking as someone who liked MAMAMOO, people loved the group as a complete unit, and it is true that Wheein's vocal tone is charming. However, such praise seems to have boosted her ego and instilled in her the confidence that she could succeed as a solo artist. I do not know if there was any conflict within the team or with the company, but she was the first to leave. While MAMAMOO is highly polished and attractive as a complete group, individually, Wheein doesn't seem to possess the overwhelming performance or talent that Hwasa has. It's a shame; I think her peak would have lasted longer if she had continued to shine as part of MAMAMOO

Aside from Hwasa, not a single one of them succeeded individually

They have the visuals where, as a group, they have good synergy, but alone, it's hard to succeed

Wasn't that the girl who kept making ugly faces and complaining about being an ordinary person? Just how much of a top star did she actually think she was?
