Judge Shin Jong-oh of the Seoul High Court, who presided over the appeal trial regarding allegations of stock manipulation involving Deutsch Motors against Kim Keonhee, was found d*ad near the courthouse in the early hours of the 6th.
Police received a report around midnight the previous night and discovered Judge Shin in a flowerbed near the Seoul High Court building around 1 a.m. that day, transporting him to a hospital.
It has been confirmed that a s***ide note was found at the scene.
Police are investigating the exact cause of d*ath, keeping in mind the possibility of s****ide by jumping.
Judge Shin was the presiding judge of Criminal Division 15-2, the appellate court handling the case against Kim, who was sentenced on the 28th of last month on charges of violating the Capital Markets Act, the Political Funds Act, and accepting bribes for mediation under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
He had been leading the proceedings for approximately three months since receiving the case on February 6. The court found the defendant guilty of some charges of violating the Capital Market Act in connection with the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, and guilty of all charges of accepting bribes for mediation under the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Crimes in connection with the Unification Church, sentencing him to four years in prison and a fine of 50 million won.
The court also ordered the confiscation of one Graff necklace worth 62.2 million won and the forfeiture of 20.94 million won.
This is more than double the sentence of one year and eight months in prison handed down in the first trial.
