SM Entertainment (hereinafter “SM”) is teaming up with global IP content company SAMG Entertainment (CEO Kim Soo-hoon, hereinafter “SAMG Entertainment”) to co-produce a K-pop-themed animated series.
SM announced on the 27th that it has signed a co-production agreement with SAMG Entertainment for the animated series “Superhero Idol Project” (working title) and will move forward with the development of a new animated IP targeting the global market.
“Superhero Idol Project” is a large-scale IP venture that combines the K-pop universe with animated content. It is planned as a 13-episode series, with each episode running approximately 20 minutes, and aims for a 2028 release on global OTT platforms.
In particular, this project primarily targets audiences ranging from teenagers to those in their 20s and 30s. It plans to introduce new content that appeals to both the K-pop fandom and animation viewers through distinctive storytelling that blends artist IP with superhero narratives.
SM will participate not only in the planning and production of the main music featured in the series but also in the vocals and overall performances. By leveraging the music production expertise and performance capabilities SM has accumulated over many years, the company is expected to enhance the series’ quality and provide a unique viewing experience.
Furthermore, through this project, the two companies plan to develop an “integrated IP business” model that extends beyond animation production into various fields such as music, concerts, artist management, and video licensing.
