[Nate] JISOO PAID THE PRICE FOR HIS 'SCHOOL VIOLENCE CONTROVERSY' ... KEYEAST, ORDERED TO PAY 880 MILLION WON IN DAMAGE COMPENSATION FOR 'RIVER WHERE THE MOON RISES'

The Supreme Court of Korea has finalized a ruling requiring KeyEast, the former agency of actor Jisoo (real name Kim Jisoo, 33), to pay 880 million won (~US$640,000) in damages to the production company of the River Where the Moon Rises, from which the actor withdrew following a school bullying controversy.

According to the legal community on July 6, KeyEast submitted a notice withdrawing its appeal on June 24 to the Supreme Court's Third Division (presided over by Justice Oh Seok-jun) in the damages lawsuit filed by the drama's production company, Canvas N (formerly Victory Contents).

As a result, the appellate court's ruling ordering KeyEast to pay 880 million won to Canvas N has become final.

In March 2021, allegations surfaced on online communities accusing Ji Soo of committing school violence during his school years. After acknowledging parts of the allegations, he withdrew from the KBS2 drama River Where the Moon Rises, in which he had been starring.

At the time, filming for 18 of the drama's 20 episodes had already been completed, and the series had aired through Episode 6.

The production company replaced Jisoo with actor Na Inwoo and chose to reshoot a substantial portion of the drama that had already been filmed.

Canvas N subsequently filed a damages lawsuit against KeyEast, seeking approximately 3 billion won in compensation for losses incurred during the reshoots, including cast salaries, staff wages, location and equipment rental fees, and art production costs.

The trial court ruled in favor of Canvas N, ordering KeyEast to pay 1.42 billion won in damages. On appeal, however, the court reassessed part of the damages calculation and reduced the award to 880 million won.

Canvas N also appealed the appellate ruling, seeking a larger award, but the Supreme Court dismissed its appeal, leaving the 880 million won judgment as the final decision.

Oho, I love this kind of development. Entertainment agencies need to thoroughly review school records and conduct rigorous social media screenings when signing contracts with actors and singers. They must ensure they hire entertainers who can exert a positive influence on the public, especially on young people

School violence assailants need to reflect until they d*e. Why? Because the victims will never forget until they d*e. They will live a life of hardships..
