I was reflecting on this and lately seeing this downward trend going on in the k-pop industry in general.
To me, peak k-pop international fan moments were:
1. When idol variety shows first entered international scenes. I'm talking about OG shows, when idols were doing their own variety shows in the format of an actual show, not some Youtube content. Who else remembers Explorers of the Human Body from Super Junior? I grew up on this. It was wayyyy before all the new boring idol content started, and they had way less filter? K-pop international fans had so much more chill back then.
Shows like Infinite's You're My Oppa would neeeever fly now, but it was so fun to watch in the past. I can't explain it
2. When all the translation blogs started. RIP netizenbuzz, but she really rallied every international fandoms together to witness the downfall of T-ara, Sulli, toilet Yoochun and that SS501 guy.
I'm a hag and you can't convince me modern international k-pop fandom culture is peak
