A man in his 30s has been arrested by police after purchasing large quantities of tickets, including those for popular K-pop idol concerts, and reselling them at up to 30x their original price, using the proceeds to buy an apartment and commercial property.
On the 16th, the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit 2 of the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency announced that it had referred the man, identified as "A," to the prosecution under arrest on charges including obstruction of business.
A is accused of purchasing 8,967 tickets for popular performances and reselling them for approximately 2.4 billion won over a period of seven years and seven months, from September 2018 to April of this year, by utilizing macro programs and other people's accounts.
A, who had no regular employment, made exorbitant profits by purchasing tickets for various events, such as concerts by famous idols, visiting international artists, and popular trot singers, as well as musicals and sporting events, and reselling them at prices up to 30 times their original cost.
The purchased tickets were distributed and stored across the online accounts of seven people, including A, their family members, and relatives. A then resold the tickets by methods such as handing over entry wristbands at the concert venue or changing the delivery address to that of the buyer.
