After their legal representatives finished presenting arguments, each member of NewJeans (NJZ) came forward one by one, holding a piece of paper or a notebook with their prepared remarks, and spoke for about 3–5 minutes each.
Haerin said,
“I felt so helpless watching ADOR take no action against HYBE and the other labels that have been tarnishing our achievements and damaging our image. Former CEO Min Hee-jin did everything she could to protect us, but HYBE instead treated her actions as a problem, attacked her, and even went as far as to remove her from her position.”
Danielle, her voice trembling, said,
“There may be five of us on stage, but we’re actually a team of six, including CEO Min. I want to continue working with her, not with ADOR.”
Hyein, also emotional, said,
“At the current ADOR, my future as both an idol and as a person feels so uncertain and bleak. Because our work came from everyone’s sincerity, we can’t bring ourselves to present to the public something false and insincere that lacks authenticity, even if it may look good on the surface.”
Hanni and Minji followed with similar statements expressing that their trust in ADOR had been broken.
Hanni said,
“When I see the things HYBE is doing to try to stop us, I actually think it’s because they’re afraid of us, afraid of our success and our future. It’s hard to continue working with a company that doesn’t respect or believe in us.”
Finally, Minji said,
“For a long time, I’ve been hurt by the discrimination I’ve experienced. The company’s explanation that what I felt was just a misunderstanding only makes that pain worse.”
Just before the hearing ended, Danielle raised her hand and asked to speak once more. When the court allowed it, she said tearfully,
“I’m 21 years old, and I don’t want to spend the next five years (the remaining duration of our contract) at ADOR. I want to emphasize again that I have absolutely no desire to continue working with ADOR.”
